Jury returns the first death penalty verdict in Kentucky since 2006

In Trigg County last week a jury sentenced Kevin Wayne Dunlap (right) to death for the killing of three children (Kayla Williams, Kourtney Frensley and Ethan Frensley) and the attempted murder and rape of their mother (who is not being identified because she was the victim of a sexual assault). According to the Clarksville (Tenn.) Leaf Chronicle, Dunlap, a 13-year Army veteran who also served in the Kentucky National Guard for two years, plead guilty to all of the crimes.

This verdict is the first death sentence ordered by a jury in Kentucky since December 2006. (In 2007, for example, 108 cases were potentially eligible for the death penalty, but no death sentences were returned.)
