Attorney General Jack Conway filed an oral argument request with the Kentucky Supreme Court today, appealing Franklin Circuit Court Judge Phillip Shepherd’s ruling that blocked Gregory Wilson’s scheduled execution for Sept. 16.
If the Kentucky Supreme Court sides with Conway, the state may be able to follow through on Gov. Steve Beshear’s plan to execute Wilson, who has an IQ of 62 and had incompetent attorneys during his original trial, this Thursday.
Now would be a good time for Gov. Beshear and Attorney General Conway to consider the retired prison chaplain’s challenge not to execute anyone until after the upcoming elections.
